Gowen is a small unincorporated community located in the southeastern part of the state of Oklahoma, United States. It is situated in Latimer County and has a population of approximately 250 people. The area was originally inhabited by several Indian tribes before the arrival of European settlers in the early 19th century. The town is named after William L. Gowen, a prominent businessman who helped to establish the local post office. Today, Gowen is known for its beautiful natural scenery, including the nearby Ouachita National Forest, which offers excellent opportunities for hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. The town also features several local businesses, including grocery stores and gas stations, as well as a small community center and public library.
